Block Printing, Collage, and Heart Art!

Dear friends of the West Parish art room,
We have been having a great time, and getting very creative since the last blog.  Here are some highlights.   We have been discussing Snow Flake Bentley in all of the grades, as an introduction or review of radial design.  William Bentley is famous for photographing real snow crystals!   Grades 3, 4 and 5 created snowflake inspired shrinky dinks (hopefully they made it home!).  Grades 2 and 3 have been focusing on complimentary color and abstract art. Grades 4 and 5 have been completing their weavings, and I must say I have been very impressed with their determination and commitment to the weaving process!  Some students in grades 4 and 5 have also experience block printing.  Kindergarten, first and and second grade had a "heart art" day, where they were able to experience making heart art using different mediums, and techniques.

Students had adventures in "heart art" using a variety of materials in centers last week

The Snowy Day-
First Graders Created a "Snowy Day" with a variety of magical collage materials-
A fun way to play with snow this year, since there is none on the ground!

I want to thank the West Parish Family for bringing in lots of fun art materials.

Next week fourth grade is going to be exploring "pop art" and we are going to attempt to create some delicious paper mache dessert food sculptures!  For this project I will be looking for donations of all of your old newspaper, tinfoil and perhaps some paper plates and yogurt containers!

Here is a list of things we always need!

paper plates
paper towels
wipes
newspaper
kleenex tissue

Thanks again for all of your support!!
Mrs. Morgan
